THE STATE HERMITAGE
The State Hermitage is one of the world biggest art and culture museums. Founded in 1764, the Hermitage comprises eight departments: the Primitive Culture, the Culture of Antiquity, the Culture of the East, the History of Russian Culture, the Numismatics, the West European Culture, the Department of Science and Education, and the Restoration Department. There are over 350 halls in Hermitage. The museum keeps 15 thousand paintings, 12 thousand sculptures, 600 thousands drawings, over 600 thousand monuments of archeology, over one million coins and medals, and 4224 thousand items of applied arts. Empress Catherine II initiated the collection of the Hermitage. In the end of the 19th century the museum was opened to public. Paintings of such great masters as Leonard da Vinci, Titian, Raphael, Rembrandt, Poussain, Manet, Renoir are in the ownership of the Hermitage. The Hermitage is famous through its collection of Scythian golden articles.

THE STATE RUSSIAN MUSEUM
Established in 1895 as the center of art and history. The museum was opened in 1898 and named after its founder "The Emperor Museum of the Russian Art named after Alexander III". From 1917 it is called "The Russian Museum". The museum owns the Russia biggest collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings, items of applied and folk arts. The exhibitions show ancient icons and the collections of items of the 18th - 20th centuries.

THE HOUSE OF PETER I
Constructed in 1703. From 1918 the government protects it. The museum exhibits the items related to victory of Russia in the Northern War of 1700-21, as well as the items about foundation of St.Petersburg. The interiors show the household items of the 18th century, and objects that belonged to Peter the Great.

THE MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF ST.PETERSBURG. THE PETER AND PAUL FORTRESS
Formed in 1918 as a museum of the city. The museum holds about 840 thousand items, a unique collection of the maps of St.Petersburg, genuine drawings of famous architects, household articles of the 18th - 20th centuries. The exhibitions show the life of various strata of people in St.Petersburg. The excursion route includes visits to the Peter and Paul Cathedral, the Grand Dukes Burial-vault, the Prison of Trubetskoy Bastion, the exhibitions of the Engineer House, the House of the Superintendent, and the Boat House.

THE MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND ETHNOGRAPHY named after Peter the Great
The museum was established in 1879. It holds over 1 million articles (about 300 thousand items of ethnography, about 500 thousand items of archeology, and about 200 thousand items of anthropology). Many exhibits are quite unique.

THE AURORA CRUISER
It was founded in 1897 and launched in 1900. It is named after the Aurora frigate that defended Petropavlovsk on Kamchatka during the War of 1853-56. The cruiser participated in the Tsusima battle. From November 17 1948 the cruiser became the monument of the October revolution. It is located near Petrogradskaya Embankment of the Bolshaya Nevka River. Form 1957 it is an affiliate of the Navy museum.

THE CENTRAL NAVAL MUSEUM
One of the world biggest navy museums that was established in 1709. The museum exhibits the items related to the history of Russian Fleet, and the traditions of Russian sailors. The museum stores over 800 thousand exhibits including 2 thousand ship models, over 3,500 banners, over 7 thousand items of arms, weapons, and military facilities, about 2 thousand paintings. The boat of Peter the Great is the unique exhibit of the museum.

THE MUSEUM OF ZOOLOGY
The museum was created in 1832 on the basis of the collection of Kuntzkamera. It holds the exhibits of over 15 million types of animals. The Museum of Zoology of St.Petersburg is one of the world biggest museums of this kind.

THE MILITARY HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF ARTILLERY, ENGINEERING AND COMMUNICATION FORCES
It is one of the world biggest military museums. The museum is located in the building of the former Arsenal and dates from 1756. It stores over 500 thousand items (from old arquebuses of the 18th century, till modern rockets.

THE MUSEUM OF RUSSIAN VODKA
The museum collection juxtaposes vodka bottles, glasses, posters and much other vodka memorabilia. Why has the Russian Vodka survived through centuries? You will find the answer trying the best vodkas produced by the most celebrated distilleries of Russia and high quality food according to the local rules and traditions of drinking vodka. In addition to an interesting collection, the Museum is also unique in that in one of its halls the interior decoration of a Tractir (Restaurant) at the end of the 19th century is reproduced. In this Tractir one can taste the best sorts of vodka that is currently produced in Russia, compare their qualities, and, what is also important, have a substantial meal with one's vodka, according to the national tradition. The every day tasting sessions recommend you to reserve tickets in advance.

THE MIKHAILOVSKY CASTLE
It is an affiliate of the Russian Museum.

THE MENSHIKOV PALACE
It is an affiliate of the Hermitage. From 1967 the museum exhibits the items of Russian culture of the first third of the 18th century, the genuine unique pieces of art and household objects of the Peter I epoch.

THE MARBLE PALACE

THE STROGANOV PALACE
It is a luxurious palace created by Rastrelli, which became an affiliate of the Russian Museum. It is used as the depositary and the exhibition hall.

THE MUSEUM OF THEATER AND MUSIC
It is one of the biggest museums of theater. Established in Petrograd in 1918, the museum keeps the collection of portraits and documents of the Alexandra Theater. The exhibited and stored items elucidate the history or Russian and West European Theaters of the 18th - 19th centuries. There are over 400 thousand unique exhibits in the museum.

THE MUSEUM OF THE CITY SCULPTURE
Established in 1932 as the Necropolis Museum. From 1939 it is the State Museum of the City Sculpture that is responsible for management of all city sculptures and memorial signboards. There are two departments in the museum: the Department of artistic gravestones and the department of monumental sculpture of the 19th - 20th centuries.

THE MUSEUM OF ETHNOGRAPHY OF RUSSIA
Established in 1901 as an ethnography department of the Russian Museum (opened in 1923). The main collection (over 260 thousand articles and 140 thousand photographs) comprises the items related to the culture and life of nations of the former USSR, as well as to modern folk art.

THE MUSEUM OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
It is one of the world biggest collections of musical instruments that was created in 1902. Here you can see instruments that belonged to the great masters.

THE MONUMENT TO HEROIC DEFENDERS OF LENINGRAD
Created in 1975. In 1978 a memorial Hall was opened that houses the exhibits and relics related to the heroic defense of Leningrad during the World War II.

THE SUMMER PALACE OF PETER I
It is one of the first stone buildings in St.Petersburg constructed in 1710-14 to the designs of the architect D. Tresini. The palace preserved the original decor and the interiors. The exhibits include items that belonged to Peters the Great, and Catherine I, items of carved wood and glass, expensive fabrics, trellises, and paintings of the 18th century.

THE MUSEUM OF RUSSIAN LITERATURE (The Pushkinskiy Dom)
The museum was established in 1905 as a museum type depositary. The Museum of Literature of the House of Pushkin holds the Russia largest collection of manuscripts, icons, and memorial articles related to the history of Russian literature and culture of the 18th - 20th centuries.

THE MUSEUM OF M.V.LOMONOSOV
Established in 1947. The museum was opened in 1949 in the building of Kuntzkamera. The museum shows the exhibition "Lomonosov and the Russian astronomy of the 18th century". You can see here the personal effects of Lomonosov, scientific devices, scientific and literature works of the scientist, as well as the samples of materials for mosaic pictures that were created under his guidance. The decor and atmosphere of the conference hall of the Academy of Science of the 18th century was reconstructed.

THE HOUSE OF M. KSHESINSKAYA
The Museum of the Political History of Russia The museum exhibits documents, works of art, and articles related to the events of the political history of Russia of the 19th - 20th centuries. The museum is known by the permanent exhibition of wax statues of famous politicians. There is also a separate memorial exhibition located in the personal rooms of M. Kshesinskaya, which is dedicated to the creative life of the world famous ballerina.

THE APARTMENT OF PUSHKIN
The museum was opened in 1925. It is the last apartment of the poet, reconstructed to the plot-plan made by Zhukovsky and memoirs of Pushkin's contemporaries. The exhibits include the articles that belonged to Pushkin as well as some household items.

THE APARTMENT OF ANNA AKHMATOVA (Fontanniy dom)
It is a literature/historical museum that was opened in 1989. It comprises the apartment interiors of the art historian N.I. Punin, the husband of Akhmatova, as well as the exhibits dedicated to creative life of the poetess.

THE APARTMENT OF A.A.BLOCK
The museum was opened in 1980 in apartments nos. 21 and 23, where the poet lived from 1912 till 1921. The interior and the atmosphere of the beginning of the 20th century are reconstructed. Many items that belonged to A.A. Block are exhibited here.

THE APARTMENT OF N.A.NEKRASOV
The museum was opened in 1946 to honor the 125th anniversary of the poet. The Nekrasov's apartment was reconstructed to old drawings and memoirs of the contemporaries. Nekrasov's personal effects, portraits and paintings are exhibited in the museum.

THE MEMORIAL MUSEUM OF F.M.DOSTOEVSKY
The museum was opened in 1971 to honor the 150th anniversary of the Great Russian writer. The interiors of the apartment where Dostoevsky spent last years of his life are reconstructed with some personal effects of the writer exhibited.
