Russian Union of Travel Industry was founded in 1993 ( before 2001 the organisation was called The Russian Association of Travel Agencies). RUTI is the business union of Russian tourist brunch. Since 1995 it was included in United Federation of Travel Agents’ Associations (UFTAA), in 1997 RUTI became a member of the World Tourism Organization (WTO).

RUTI unites about one thousand companies, the activity of which is connected with tourism. It brings together travel agencies, hotels, sanatoriums, mass media, educational institution, transportation companies and other organisations, that work in the travel and leisure industry.

The main purpose of Russian Union of Travel Industry is to support the development of tourism in Russian Federation and to create in the country the civilised tourist market. Being the noncommercial organisation, RUTI protects corporate collective interests of the members and the right of clients served by them.

RUTI includes 14 regional departments. It also has representatives in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Germany, Israel.

The North-West division of the Union is one of the largest and dynamically developing regional branches of the Union. Today it unites more than 100 enterprises of the tourist industry, including the leading companies of St.-Petersburg and the Northwest Region of Russian Federation. The North-West division of RUTI is one of organizers of regional and international tourist exhibitions, festivals; it also holds seminars, conferences, business meetings and realises the educational, marketing and consulting projects seek to achieve the Union purposes.
